Review of Passion and Pleasure in London by Melody Thomas

Blurb:

Can two people rediscover their passion for life in the love they have for each other?

Winter Ashburn was once the toast of the ton, but now she skirts the margins of high society by stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Her latest mark is none other than Rory Jameson, the rake who dared mistake her for a lady of the evening. Winter has stolen from her fair share of scandalously handsome men in the past…so why does her heart beat faster as she approaches his door.

Rory Jameson is a rake, it’s true. And he’s caught many a thief while on secret missions for the crown, but none have been this intriguing, this enticing. He will make Winter repay what she took so shamelessly…and melt her icy facade with the heat of his

wicked touch. But her kiss sets his soul on fire–now he will never be satisfied until he has made this alluring temptress his own.

When Winter Ashburn is caught stealing from Rory Jameson outside the local inn, she never thought the encounter and his kiss would have such a strong effect on her…or that moments later she would be caring for a wounded Rory.

Believing Winter is a lady of the evening, Rory steals a passionate kiss before Winter leaves.  When he discovers that his wallet was stolen during their embrace, he decides to follow the lovely young lady to retrieve what belongs to him.  As he follows Winter, never expected to be attacked.  Yet that is exactly what happens.  Shot by unseen assailants, Rory is left at the mercy of Winter, who takes the dangerous rake to a friend’s cottage to care for him and to protect him from those that would see him harmed.

As the two spend more time together, they learn there may be more to each other than meets the eye and the mystery surrounding their pasts is revealed.  Mistrustful of men and of those in society, Winter is reluctant to open up completely to Rory despite her growing attraction to the handsome man.  Meanwhile, Rory is determined to discover the person who wants to see him dead.

While he investigates, Rory soon finds himself fighting his growing feelings for the intriguing young woman and Winter cannot help but wonder if she has finally met someone she can trust…and love.

Passion and Pleasure in London is a wonderful historical romance with a touch of mystery and fascinating characters.  Rory and Winter made an intriguing couple and it was interesting to see how their relationship developed and how they dealt with the obstacles that stood in their way.  Ms. Thomas did a wonderful job of making me care for these characters.  The ups-and-downs of their relationship as well as those of the plot kept my interest and made me wonder what would happen next.  The ending of this interesting story was both surprising and touching.

Passion and Pleasure in London is a well-written, fast-paced story that blends mystery, danger, and romance and I enjoyed reading it.
