Interview with Kathy Love!

This time Kathy was gracious enough to answer a few questions…

So, what have you been up to since you were last here?

Erin and I have attended some wonderful conferences.  A great conference in Houma, LA, and Romantic Times, which was a lot of work because The Impalers appeared live–or undead, if you will.  And let me tell you, working with musicians is exhausting.  It’s like keeping five 3 year olds on task.  One is always wandering away.  Or overtired.  Or hungry.  But they did a great job and were a big hit, so it was worth the hard work.

(Side note:  For those new to The Impalers, they are a fictional band created by Kathy and Erin, but are also portrayed in person by real life musicians)

I also sold three more books to Kensington Brava as well as a very odd and fun book that I wrote with my dear friend, Julie Cohen.  We sold it to Samhain Publishing, and we are using the pseudonym, B.H. Dark.  It’s a comedic alien romance about aliens trying to build an intergalactic porn empire. Very crazy and fun.

Tell us about your latest release.

My newest new release will be I Want You To Want Me in September.  It’s the story of Vittorio Ridgewood, the younger half-brother of Ren, who I introduced in Any Way You Want It, Vittorio suspects that someone is killing women that he’s been involved with.  Which makes falling in love with his downstairs mortal neighbor a dicey proposition.

Although I think Erika, the downstairs neighbor, is willing to take the risk.  This book includes demons, lampirs, vampires, musicians (supernatural entities unto themselves) and one very crazy and very creepy mother.

Sounds great! What inspired the story?

Well, not my own mom.   She’s a wonderful, completely non-creepy woman.  I actually plotted a lot of this book with Erin.  As you can see, Erin and I talk a lot.  🙂  The idea also stemmed out of our work with the band guys in The Impalers.

Since the creation of The Impalers, what has been your favorite moment?

Really, pulling off any event we’ve done with them.  Musicians are a different breed altogether, and there’s a lot in in the care and feeding of them.  The idea is going well, but it is work.  Still it’s very cool to have our very own rock band.  And readers seem to like the concept.

Has the response to the vampire band been what you expected?

It’s been great.  They were so well-received at RT.  People danced and interacted with them.  It was fantastic.

What’s next for you?

Since I did sell three more books, I will be working on them.  They will continue the series started with Any Way You Want It and I Want You To Want Me.  Except I’ll be doing more with demons.  There are a lot of unhappy demons right now in my fictional world.  Mainly because someone has written a book about how to conjure them, and they want this book gone.

What’s next for The Impalers?

Well, clearly Erin‘s up for a little bloodletting.  But The Impalers will be appearing again at Heather Graham’s Writers for New Orleans conference this Labor Day weekend.  At the Monteleone right in the French Quarter.  And yes, one (maybe even two) of them are going to get the stake.

Is there anything you’d like to ask my blog readers?

How did you get into paranormal romance, if you are?  And what type of heroes and heroines do you like in your paranormals?

Great questions and thank you, Kathy, for taking the time to be here!

Hi, Kathy! Thanks for taking the time to do the interview! I’ve been dipping a toe into the paranormal book pool, so to speak. I’ve read a couple paranormals, and have Any Way You Want It on my TBR, but I’m pretty easily creeped out, so I haven’t fully embraced the huge variety available in paranormal romance these days. I think I enjoy the same kinds of heroes and heroines in all the romances I read–courageous, interesting, ones with integrity and character (even if not in the traditional sense)…

    Hi Kathy,

Great interview! Your books sound wonderful and I have added them to my list of must buys.

I first got into paranormals by reading Laurell K. Hamilton’s Guilty Pleasures. Once I read that I was hooked and I have not looked back since.

I like my heros and heriones to strong, sexy, and in the end be willing to sacrifice for each other.

    Hi Kathy,
Congrats on your book deal. I got interested in paranormals when I started reading Heather Graham’s romantic suspenses. I started to read her other titles which were paranormals with ghosts, psychics and vampires. Paranormals have become one of my favorite genres.

  4. I can’t wait to read I Want You To Want Me! Erika deserves her dark eyed prince. 😉

    Hi Kathy and Jennifer!
Congratulations on selling 3 more books, Kathy! I love your books – and cannot wait to read “I Want You to Want Me.” I’m excited about the new books and wish I could see the Impalers live! 😀

    Hi Kathy!
I think I mentioned earlier that I am currently reading ‘Fangs for the Memories’…the first of your paranormals
I’ve ever read. Now I have to read the rest of them!
I totally enjoyed the ‘Wanting’ series.
Growing up I always loved fairytales. I looked for books that had some element of the supernatural.
Anne Rice is who actually got me into the whole paranormal/vampire book scene. I fell totally and completely for
Louis and Lestat. I knew there had to be something out there that combined my love of paranormal with my love of romance. Hence, my paranormal addiction began! 😛

    Hi Kathy!

    Great interview!
I got into paranormals by a friend of mine. She The Black Dagger Brotherhood and forced my to buy them too. I’m hooked to vampires and werewolves and witches ever since.

What I like about my heroes/heroines? I don’t really know. They can do things we can only dream of. Their hearing, smelling, etc. is much better than ours. They’re just awsome!

  8. Teresa W. says:

A friend of mine got me into reading Paranormal. She introduced me to Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. I’ve read everyone and I’m eagerly awaiting for Ash’s story, thats coming soon. This is now my favorite genre to read and my favs are the vamps.
