Kate Pearce tells us about her new release…

First, yesterday’s winner is:  Fedora

Please e-mail me to claim your prize!

 ***

Today my guest is author Kate Pearce.

Kate chose to do the “Complete the Sentences – Book Version” to tell us a little about her new release.

simplyshamelessMy book is titled:  Simply Shameless

It got that title because:  it is part of a series of Simply something books and it fits the heroine down to a ‘t’

My book is about:  Madame Helene Delornay who runs a very exclusive pleasure house in Regency London and Mr. Philip Ross, a gentleman from her past who reappears in her life with very interesting consequences.

The idea for my book came from:  Madame Helene being a secondary character in the first two books, Simply Sexual and Simply Sinful. I wanted to write about this interesting woman from the beginning and was glad to get the opportunity.

I think readers will like the hero because:  He is one of the only men in the world who is smart and sexy enough to deal with Helene and offer her the kind of love she really needs.

I think readers will like the heroine because:  she is a strong woman who has been through terrible suffering but has refused to let herself be dragged down and has triumphed in life on her own particular terms.

If I had to describe the hero and heroine’s relationship with one word, that word would be:  combustible! -is that a word?

My favorite character in the book is:  Helene

I like this character because:  she is not ashamed to own her sexuality and run her own business in a time when women were often treated like chattels. And she’s made mistakes but she is trying her best to redeem them.

My book is set in:  Regency England

I chose this setting because:  I love this time period above all others.

While writing this book, I:  found myself really loving how Philip handled Helene, his honesty, his humor and the fact that he ends up respecting and loving her, which is no more than she deserves.

The thing I enjoyed most about writing this book was:  the snappy dialogue, and the scorching sex scenes.

What surprised me most while writing this book is:  how hard it was to end it and let them be happily ever after. I could’ve gone on writing about them for at least another book :)

Readers can find my books:  every where-in stores, on Amazon and all listed on my website at http://www.katepearce.com

Thanks Kate!

Readers, be sure to check out Kate’s books as well as her website!

Kate kindly donated a copy of Simply Shameless to one lucky winner.  I’ll randomly select and announce the winner tomorrow so be sure to check back to see if you won!

Beth was kind enough to complete the sentences for us today.   So here’s a little insight into Beth Kery…

I am Beth Kery

I like many things, but a few are a hot bath with scented salts, candles, fashion, art and books that are so romantic they take you to another place for a precious period of time.

I love my husband, writing and living life to the fullest.

I dream of writing the perfect romance…whatever that is. :)

I wish that I could eat all the carbs and chocolate I wanted and never gain an ounce.

I wonder how I could have such a rational, scientific brain and love romances so much.

I pretend that I’m not shy a lot of the time.

I know my own strengths and weaknesses, but I still know there’s more to learn. :)

I fear…hmmmm, catastrophe. I never fear classic things, like demons, aliens or ghosts. I just fear those awful, unexpected tragedies that inevitably strike many human lives.

I worry about being able to write my next book. Maybe the others were a fluke?

I appreciate when people are kind—giving an unexpected smile or a cheerful word. I can’t tell you how much it changes my day when someone chooses to smile instead of snarl.

I hope that my books reach the people who would really like them.

I look like I’m happy at this point in my life. I hope I look like it, anyway, because I am.

I read to treat myself, and to calm down after a hectic day.

I want so much. I just hope my wants are reasonable to my strengths, skills and luck.

I need not a lot. My husband, my computer, peace and quiet, my family.

I will more than likely be extremely nervous on May 5 when Daring Time releases and also on May 6, when I do my first book signing at a Barnes and Noble in Chicago’s loop.

I can memorize people’s faces and the things they tell me almost perfectly, but I’m awful at recalling names.

 I think too much.

I have never traveled to Egypt even though I’ve always wanted to.

I dance to have fun, but it’s great that I get to burn off so many calories while doing that!

I wish I had thought of poise speaking in public.

I cannot live without my air purifier. Not because it purifies the air, but because it’s my white noise maker. I live in the city, and it’s an absolute must. The city sounds would drive me crazy otherwise.

I am happy when I finish a book. Best feeling in the world.

I would like to meet Barack Obama, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, Chris Cornell. I wanted to meet author Larissa Ione, and I got to meet her at RT recently. *grin*

I am annoyed by rigid routines.

I have always wanted to be an author.

I encourage people to think outside the box, take off the blinders and find ways to make their dreams a reality.

I think it would be cool if I could travel long distances without having to get on a cramped plane. (I’ve been getting more and more nervous about flying recently. Don’t know why.)

I love to lay in bed and read or write when no one is looking.

I write romance because it offers a wonderful escape.

I would love to know what readers think when they finish one of my books.

 Thanks Beth!

Beth donated a lovely prize for today…

One lucky commenter will receive a signed copy of Daring Time (US and Canada only…if winner resides outside of the US or Canada he/she will receive a download of their choice from Beth’s eBook backlist).

I’ll randomly select and announce the winner tomorrow so be sure to return to see if you won.

I think it would be cool if my son danced on Broadway.

I love to walk around the house naked when no one is looking.

I write romance because I believe in the power of attraction, love, and human contact. After all, I’m a newly wed for the second time so hope springs eternal!

Special Guest…Cynthia Eden!

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Today my guest is author Cynthia Eden.

Cynthia chose to do the “Complete the Sentences Book Version” for her new release, Immortal Danger.

immortal-danger-My book is titled: Immortal Danger

-My book is about: An ex-cop turned vampire heroine and the shifter hero who has to trade his blood for her help.  :-)

-The book was inspired by: I actually wrote a novella for Red Sage about a female vampire (Blood Hunt in Secrets, Volume 25). I had a great time with that character, but I kept wondering what would happen if I made a darker heroine, one with a very scarred past, one with a bleak future, and one who just had nothing to lose. And with those thoughts…Maya was born.

-My book is set in:  LA, modern time, well, modern with a few paranormal upgrades.

-I chose this setting because: I wanted to use a very urban setting for this story, and I wanted to head to the West Coast with these characters (because the characters from my “Midnight” trilogy are the East Coast gang).

-I think readers will like the hero because:  Adam Brody puts family first and foremost in his life. He’s dedicated, he’s loyal, and he’s very, very dangerous.

-I think readers will like the heroine because: Maya Black is a survivor. She’s tough, street-smart, and independent. She can also kick some serious supernatural butt.

-If I had to describe the hero and heroine’s relationship with one word, that word would be: Dangerous.

-My favorite character in the book is: Maya. :-)   She’s so broken, and so bad and I love her.

-My favorite scene in the book is:  Hmmm…my favorite scene occurs when Adam finally gets to show the world just how powerful he is.

-The thing I enjoyed most about writing this book was:  The characters–the characters were so much fun to write!

-If I had to summarize my book in one sentence it would be:  A shifter must put his fate into the hands of a female vampire he doesn’t trust, but craves more than any other.

-I would love to know what readers think about “darker” characters in books. (By darker, I mean characters who don’t lead perfect lives, characters who have to deal with tragedy and horror, and characters who show that sometimes, that line between right and wrong is very, very weak.)

Thanks Cynthia!

Readers, you can learn more about Cynthia and her books at her site: www.cynthiaeden.com

Go ahead and tell Cynthia what you think about “darker” characters in books.

Cynthia was kind enough to donate a prize to one lucky commenter.

One commenter will win her/his choice of one autographed book from Cynthia‘s backlist (this includes Immortal Danger).

I’ll randomly select and announce the winner tomorrow

Therese Kinkaide Completes the Sentences…

Thursday, March 12, 2009

The winner of yesterday’s giveaway is: Greta

Please e-mail me to claim your prize!

Today I welcome author Therese Kinkaide to the blog.

Therese’s latest is called Luther’s Cross and here is what romance author Linda Rettstatt had to say about the book:

lutherscross“Luther’s Cross, the newest book by author Therese Kinkaide, should come with a warning label: Caution-This book may inhibit the reader’s ability to turn off the light and sleep. Luther’s Cross is a well-crafted story that delves into both the heart and mind of a young woman tortured by her past and unable to take hold of her future. Ellie is stuck with the heartache, guilt and grief over the loss of Luther, her young son.

Kinkaide draws the reader deep into the psyche and emotions of four characters whose lives intersect, and whose secrets keep them moving in a delicate dance with one another. In the end, the resolutions aren’t all what the reader might expect.

Luther’s Cross is one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. Therese Kinkaide is sure to become a shining star in the women’s fiction genre.”

Linda Rettstatt,

Author                                                                                                    www.geocities.com/lindarettstatt

Therese chose to “Complete the Sentences” and here are her responses:

I am: my kids’ mom.  Yes, I borrowed that from Dr. Laura, but I feel it’s true.  First and foremost, I am a mom and I love being at home with my kids.  I have two children, a daughter and son.  I drive them to school every day (if for any reason, I don’t, I feel off all day, like I have one shoe on and one shoe off.) and I pick them up every day.  I help with homework, we play games, we read together, and we talk.  My kids are very open with my husband and me.  We’re very blessed.  In the hours in between taking them to school and picking them up, I write.  I’m always a writer, but sometimes the writing goes on in my head, until I can get to the computer to save things.

I like: simple things.  I like to sit on the deck, when it’s warm, and read a book.  I like to curl up by the fireplace when it’s cold.  I like to watch movies with my husband and/or my kids.  I like meeting friends for coffee in the mornings.  I like listening to music, but sometimes I like silence.

I love: deeply.  I am very close to my family.  I have a big extended family, but a pretty small immediate family: lots of cousins and aunts and uncles.  I love spending time with my parents.  I love our family holidays and picnics and birthdays.  I love where I live, I love my house, and I love having my family and friends here at my house.

I dream: vividly detailed dreams-at night.  I have always had very vivid dreams, and a lot of the time, they are scary or disturbing.  I have often used dreams for ideas in my writing.  As far as dreaming as in goals and achievement, I dream of sharing my writing with readers.  I am published with a small press, and I am very happy with the experience I’ve had with them so far.  But I do dream of having my books in bookstores across the country, in order to get them into as many readers’ hands as I can.  I also dream that my kids will both go to college and find happiness and success in their lives.

I wish: for health and happiness for my family.  I have several family members who are ill, and I wish we could all be healthy and young again.  And right now, I wish it was warm outside.  I’ve had enough of this cold weather!  I wish writing a synopsis was an easier process than what it is!

I wonder: what my kids’ will do when they get older.  They have dreams of their own, and I wonder which of those dreams will come true for them.

I know: that I am truly blessed with the life I live.  I have supportive parents, I have a good, solid education, I have a wonderful family, and I love my house! And I’m getting good feedback on my first book!

I fear: losing my loved ones.  Dying and leaving my children.  Scary movies, most especially Halloween.  I have a huge, irrational fear of Michael Meyers.  When I see a picture of him, my heart kind of jumps in fear.  Rodents.  Snakes-can’t even look at a picture of one without screaming.

I worry: about the future of the country and the world.

I appreciate: readers who take the time to try new authors.  If it weren’t for those readers, we new authors would have a very difficult time.

I hope: to see more books with my name on them.

I look: both ways before I cross the street.  I wear a seatbelt all the time.  I’m pretty straight-laced and generally follow the rules.  I am one of those careful, quiet people who might be considered boring!

I read: all the time.  Suddenly I find myself reading 3 or 4 books at a time.  I read women’s fiction, crime novels, thrillers, mysteries, horror, young adult, literary fiction and now and then I read nonfiction.  My list of favorite authors/books is much too long to attempt at the moment, but I always have a book with me.  I’d rather read than watch TV most of the time.

I want: to write faster.  I have so many stories inside me that I want to write.

I need: to write faster!  My brain goes a lot faster than my typing!  I tend to be unorganized in how I write.  I don’t follow a schedule.  I don’t think I could be a writer who spends so many hours in the morning writing and so many in the afternoon editing.  I write when I need to, and I grind my teeth in frustration when I can’t get to the computer because I’m busy with something else.  I carry a notebook with me everywhere I go.

I will: continue to write.  Even when stories are rejected, I will keep writing.  I can’t stop.

I can: throw a good fastball.  I used to pitch fast pitch for a traveling team and for my high school team.  I can play the piano, but I don’t like to play for other people.

I think: too much, sometimes.

I have never: been to Hawaii.

I dance to: old time rock ‘n roll.

I wish I had thought of: Harry Potter and Hogwarts.  Edward Cullin and Forks, Washington.  JK Rowling and Stephenie Meyer are excellent story tellers.

I cannot live without: my kids and husband.  Family.  Friends.  Chocolate.  Books.  Wine.  My computer.  Music.

I am happy when: I get up in the morning.  When I pick the kids up from school and they tell me how their day was.  When I hear from a friend I haven’t seen in awhile.  When I’m alone, and I have good music on, a good cup of coffee and I’m knee deep in writing.

I would like to meet: other writers and readers.  Peyton Manning.  Former President Bush.  Sarah Palin.  Vince Vaughn.  Patrick Warburton.

I am annoyed by: people who don’t do things for themselves, if they are able.  Too much noise.  Junk mail and spam email.  Telemarketers.

I have always wanted: to be a writer.  I have been writing stories since I was in fifth grade, I think.

I encourage people to: read.  The more you read, the more you know.  I absolutely believe that.

I think it would be cool if: JK Rowling wrote another series.  If the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series this year.

I love to snitch Dove dark chocolates when no one is looking.

I write romance because: I am fascinated with people and relationships.  I write romance and women’s fiction, because I love to explore the depths of love relationships and relationships that involve friendship and family ties.

I would love to know what readers think of: Luther’s Cross.

Thanks Therese!

Please welcome…J.K. Coi!

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Today my guest is J.K. Coi.
J.K. has a fabulous series called The Immortal Series that I love.

The latest in this series was recently released, and today J.K. is going to tell us a little about it in my Book Version of “Complete the Sentences.”

dark-immortal-new-My book is titled:

Dark Immortal

-My book is about:

Demons, destruction and apocalypse…the powerful Immortal warriors who fight to keep evil at bay…the strong and determined women these men probably don’t deserve… and of course, love. It’s always about love.

-The idea for my book came from:

Well, I knew this couple once. The perfect couple. Everyone always said how obvious it was that they were very much in love. One day, I saw the woman while I was out shopping. When I asked her how she’d been, she didn’t beat around the bush, but told me straight up that she and her husband had split up. Her voice flattened out on the word “divorce”, and I felt my stomach plummet in response.

I didn’t want to believe it, but the look on her face was enough to convince me. I pried. I admit it. “What happened?” I asked. “You guys were the perfect couple. You seemed so much in love.” She glanced over my shoulder, but I don’t think she was looking at anything. I could see from the sheen in her eyes that her heart was breaking right there in the parking lot of the shopping mall, and I felt awful for stirring up her pain. I tried to apologize, but she looked back at me then and shook her head. “Sometimes love isn’t enough.”

-I think readers will like the hero because:

Alric is such a strong man. And his love for Diana is just as strong. He tries so hard to be the man she needs, but there’s a darkness in him that he struggles with. I think there is something irresistibly seductive about a hero who has a sordid past, who struggles with a baser, darker part of himself. There’s a thrill that comes with being involved with someone who’s not necessarily…safe. At the same time, I think that it’s important that his motivations are understandable. A bad boy who’s nasty and cruel just for the sake of it, isn’t going to get sympathy from anyone. But a man who’s angry and defensive for a reason and who can find it in himself to work through that and still be an honourable and decent man—well that’s someone you want to hang onto.

-I think readers will like the heroine because:

Diana is no shrinking violet. She knows about pain and loss and has fought hard to come to a greater appreciation of the delicate, fleeting gifts life has to offer, even while she fights with issues of guilt and believes she’s undeserving of love. Through the course of the book, she’s forced to take a hard look at the man she loves and the world that he lives in, to decide if she can accept the danger and uncertainty that comes along with it. I was impressed that she refused to just go along for the ride, shrug her shoulders and take whatever was dished out. Even afraid and confused, she takes charge of her future.

-If I had to describe the hero and heroine’s relationship with one word, that word would be:

Tumultuous

-One word that describes the hero is:

Determined

-One word that describes the heroine is:

Brave

-My favorite character in the book is:

Karnage (Disclaimer: besides the hero and heroine who are smokin’ characters)

-I like this character because:

Karnage is a full-blooded demon. Evil. Born and bred. But…wait, demons don’t love. Right? There’s more to him than meets the eye. You know he’s far from good. In fact, you want him to be bad. You’re rooting for just his particular brand of evil.

-My favorite scene in the book is:

Diana has suffered a severe trauma and her memory is affected. She doesn’t remember Alric, and definitely doesn’t believe that they’re actually married. At one point, she is sitting calmly on the kitchen counter letting Alric bandage her injuries (actually, Alric had to lift her up by her armpits and plop her on the counter, and he would say that she doesn’t so much let him bandage her up, but has no choice in the matter if she knows what’s good for her). As Alric opens up, it’s really the first time that Diana realizes how gentle he is with her, how tender. He talks about her family as if they were his own, he talks of their life together and she begins to see what it might have been like.

-The thing I enjoyed most about writing this book was:

How invested I was in the story, how much I wanted to know what happened as if I were the reader instead of the writer. And how natural the voices of the characters were to me. Maybe it’s because I’ve already had a few books to really get into their heads, but while writing the book was sometimes hard for me for various reasons, it wasn’t ever because the characters had stopped talking to me.

-What surprised me most while writing this book is:

The very existence of this book took me by surprise. When I began to plan out the series, I had a clear picture of the men in each book and the roles they were going to play. Alric was one of those necessary supporting characters who would help me flesh out the “real” heroes. But just as I was finishing up book 2, the entire series’ plot arc took a sharp twist—all because Alric stepped forward, no longer content to stay in his “supporting role”. Alric. In the first two books, he seems so strong and centered. His relationship with Diana is a perfect model of happily ever after. But in writing him as a secondary character, his past was slowly revealed to me; the horrible torture, the endless darkness, and the overwhelming rage. I needed to know how he had escaped the certainty of madness—and of course, the answer was Diana. She was his saviour, his light.

Then I was too intrigued by what he told me to set him in the background again. The questions and possibilities wouldn’t leave me alone. What would happen if that light were taken away, if darkness were to envelop him once more? What would happen if he were faced with his worst nightmare in the very image of the one person who kept him sane?

The story just had to be written.

Kate Pearce Completes the Sentences…

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Today I am delighted to welcome erotic romance author Kate Pearce back to the blog!

Kate’s latest release, Riding the Line, is available now!

Kate was kind (and brave) enough to complete the sentences for us today…so here’s Kate…

riding-the-lineI am: a strange mixture of immensely practical and a complete dreamer.

I like: my own company, the thrill of a good book, a good cup of tea and my family when they are all behaving themselves.

I love: having the opportunity to write romance novels, to have a family of my own and good chocolate.

I dream: the characters in my books and play out some of the scenes while I’m still half-awake.

I wish: I had someone to do the housework, driving and basic kid maintenance.

I wonder: what my kids will be like when they are all grown up and live away from us.

I pretend: I’m one of the characters in the book I’m writing-all the time.

I know: I drive my friends and kids crazy because I have been known to forget important stuff whilst immersed in booklandia.

I fear: something happening to my family.

I worry: about characters from my books like they are real people. (I worry about real people too of course :) )

I appreciate: my husband for helping me pursue a stupid dream and all my writing friends who understand how hard that dream is to achieve.

I hope: people like my books and take something good away from them.

I look: like a frazzled soccer mom.

I read: all the time, I love to read more than anything else in the world!

I want: to be a success, so that I can live a life of luxury (snort)

I need: my support system and my friends.

I will: never stop making things up and writing them down even if no one pays me to do it anymore.

I can: do anything if I set my mind to it.

I think: that everyone has a million stories and characters running around their head shouting, ‘pick me, pick me!”

I have never: taken my car to be cleaned-I make Mr Kate Pearce do it.

I dance to: everything. I love music.

I wish I had thought of: J R Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood first or Harry Potter. LOL

I cannot live without: my family and friends and a good cup of tea.

I am happy when: everyone else is happy.

I would like to meet: J K Rowling, the Clintons and Jane Austen

I am annoyed by: people who don’t ask questions and just accept what the media has to say.

I have always wanted: to be a writer.

I encourage people to: follow their dreams.

I think it would be cool if: I got to be a New York Times Bestselling author.

I love to dance around and sing when no one is looking.

I write romance because: I believe in love in all its varied forms.

I would love to ask readers: whether they like what I do- I always love it when someone contacts me.

Thanks Kate!
