We’re Having a Party!!!

Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 1:30 am (Contest, Special Event)

I am so excited about what I have planned!

Zebras tend to travel in herds and that is definitely the case on Jennifer’s Random Musings in February!
Starting tomorrow and lasting the entire month of February visit each day for something new as I welcome past, present, and future authors from Kensington’s Zebra line for interviews, guest blogs, and plenty of fun!
And did I mention there will be wonderful prizes?

I am a member of the ZebraDebutAuthors Yahoo Group…a group for readers and authors of the Zebra books.  A few months ago I got this crazy idea to have a blog party and invite some of the authors I met through the group and to invite other authors from the Zebra Debut line.  I was thrilled with the response from authors and have something planned for every day in February!

Many of the authors kindly donated prizes for some lucky winners!  I have grouped the prizes into the following prize packs…keep reading to find out how to enter to win!

Interview with Terri Brisbin!

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 1:11 am (Interview)

Please give a warm welcome to the talented author Terri Brisbin!

I first discovered Terri through her wonderful books and then “met” her online at a chat.  I was thrilled when I finally got a chance to meet her in person at a booksigning last year.
When I learned Terri had a new release out in February, I invited her to visit the blog and tell you all more about it…

surrenderhighlander.jpgYour latest release looks and sounds wonderful.  Please tell us more about it.
SURRENDER TO THE HIGHLANDER is about Rurik, a prodigal son who returns to his father seeking everything he’s wanted in life - a name and a family and to be wanted. He is asked to escort a woman back and discovers that she is everything he’s ever wanted in a woman…and the one woman he cannot have. Margriet carries a secret that threatens to destroy her chance for happiness as well as everything Rurik seeks. Hiding behind a nun’s habit, she thinks she can find a way out of her predicament, but it doesn’t help when she falls in love with him.  Their return home endangers their love and their lives. They must discover if that love is strong enough to protect them against all of their enemies.

What inspired the story?
This book is a spinoff of my July 2006 book, TAMING THE HIGHLANDER. Rurik simply walked into the story and I could tell he needed his own story. This is it!

What is your favorite part of being a writer?  Least favorite?
MY favorite part is the writing and my least favorite part is the writing! LOL! It is a wonderful feeling to create stories and characters that touch readers. It is also the worst agony when I am trying to create them!

What would you like to tell aspiring writers?
WRITE!! WRITE!! Learn your craft. Learn your market. Read. WRITE!

Who has inspired you as a writer?
I am inspired by my favorite authors — both the ones I read before I wrote and the ones I read now. Julie Garwood, Jo Beverly, Judith McNaught, Jill Barnett, Penelope Williamson, Madeline Hunter, Lynn Viehl, and many more.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Dazed and confused and tired? LOL!  Funny, sensitive and concerned….? This is hard!

What do you like to read?
I love to read historical romances and lately I’ve been reading a bunch more vampires than I ever had — I love the Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl that combines history and romance and vampire mythology!

What is next for you?
I just finished my August book, POSSESSED BY THE HIGHLANDER — this is Duncan’s story and is very emotional….I cried while writing the last three chapters of the story! I’m about to write my 2008 Regency Christmas novella and then I begin a new medieval trilogy set during the Norman invasion of England. And, of course, there will be more medieval Scottish stories, too!

Thank you so much Terri for that great interview!

Review of Every Night I’m Yours by Christie Kelley!

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 6:27 pm (Review)

Every Night I’m Yours by Christie Kelley

eniy.jpgA Woman Yearning for a Taste of the Forbidden…
At twenty-six, aspiring novelist Avis Copley intends to wear spinsterhood as a badge of honor. But when she discovers a volume of erotica that ignites a searing fire within her, Avis realizes just how much she doesn’t know about the actual pleasures of the flesh. Determined to learn more, she devises a daring plan…
A Man Ready to Teach Her Much, Much More…
Avis chooses Emory Billingsworth, a fellow novelist-not to mention a beautiful specimen of manhood-to instruct her in carnal pleasure. But when the brash earl of Selby, Banning Talbot, a man she has known for years, unearths Avis’ true intentions, he claims she’s made a dangerously bad choice. Volunteering his services for one wicked night of reckless, abandoned passion, Banning promises he will satisfy all of her deepest longings. Yet Banning cannot begin to imagine the effect his willful, voluptuous, and very eager student will have on him-or how far an innocent lesson in desire can go…

**********

Every Night I’m Yours is a fabulous book and is one of my favorite reads so far this year.  I LOVED this book!

Comfortable in her spinsterhood and haunted by her past, Avis has decided to never marry.  But when she decides to take a lover, she confides in her dearest friends.  Little did she know that they would share her plans with Banning Talbot, a man who piques Avis’s temper every time they meet.

When Banning’s sister informs him of Avis’s plan to take Emory Billingsworth as a lover, he knows he must stop her.  He has reason to believe and knowledge that Emory is not all that he seems and wishes to protect Avis before she can be hurt.

Wishing only to prevent her from approaching Emory with an offer, Banning somehow finds himself volunteering for the position of lover instead.  Having been hurt and deceived by Banning in the past, Avis is confused by and reluctant to accept Banning’s proposition…but soon finds herself giving in.

As the two learn more about each other and explore the attraction that has simmered between them for years, they find their feelings for one another growing.  But both are haunted by demons from their past that could prevent them from finding happiness with each other.

Every Night I’m Yours is a magnificent book filled with great characters and a fast-paced plot that kept me intrigued.  Avis and Banning are a lovely couple whose chemistry is obvious from the moment we first see them together.  I loved their witty banter and the comfortable relationship that the two seem to have with one another.  Avis, an aspiring writer, is a wonderful character who must overcome her past and learn to believe in both in herself and in her writing.  Banning, a truly great hero, helps her to see her true self and learn to believe in her talent even as he struggles with past demons of his own.  The romance and heat these two generate sizzles as their relationship and feelings change.

Avis and Banning’s story captured me from page one and I could not wait to find out what would happen between the two strong-minded individuals.

Avis’s friends also intrigued me and made me hope for more stories featuring them.  Coined The Spinster Club by Banning, Avis and her friends are all young women that society views as spinsters because of their age and unmarried state.  Banning’s sister Jennette definitely fascinated me and I hope we learn more about her.  Sophie, another member of The Spinster Club, is another intriguing character who I hope we see more of in the future.

With its great characters and absorbing plot, Every Night I’m Yours has earned a spot on my keeper shelf!  This well-written story was a great read that I highly recommend you read for yourself!  I look forward to reading more by the talented Christie Kelley!

Review of His Captive by Diana Cosby

Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 4:44 pm (Review)

His Captive by Diana Cosby

hiscaptive.jpgSTRANGERS
With a wastrel brother and a treacherous former fiancé, Lady Nichola Westcott hardly expects the dangerously seductive Scot who kidnaps her to be a man of his word. Though Sir Alexander MacGruder promises not to hurt her, Nichola’s only value is as a pawn to be ransomed.

ENEMIES
Alexander’s goal is to avenge his father’s murder, not to become entangled with the enemy. But his desire to keep Nichola with him, in his home—in his bed—unwittingly make her a target for those who have no qualms about shedding English blood.

LOVERS
Now Nichola is trapped—by her powerful attraction to a man whose touch shakes her to the core. Unwilling and unable to resist each other, can Nichola and Alexander save a love that has enslaved them both?

**********

His Captive is a wonderful story full of great characters, drama, and emotion.

Family honor and loyalty to his country has led Alexander to kidnap Nichola from her home in England.  Sparks fly from the moment these two enemies meet.  As they journey to his home in Scotland, Alexander becomes more intrigued by his captive and soon wishes only to protect her.

Divided by loyalties to both country and family, Alexander and Nichola struggle with their growing feelings for one another and with familial duty.  But can two enemies by birth overcome the challenges they face to find love and a happy ending?

With His Captive, the author has created wonderful characters in the caring Alexander and the spirited Nichola.  From the moment they first meet, you can sense the chemistry and sexual tension between the two as they struggle with their growing attraction.  With his caring nature and sense of honor, Alexander is a fabulous hero that one could easily fall in love with.  Nichola’s feisty nature makes her an admirable heroine and great match for her hero.  The battle-of-wills between the two is fascinating to watch unfold.

Alexander and Nichola’s brothers are also intriguing characters who I hope will have stories of their own in the future.

The story itself was well-written and captured my attention from the first page.  I could not wait to find out what would happen next in this wonderful tale.    I would highly recommend this book!

His Captive is a promising debut from a talented author! I cannot wait to read more from Diana Cosby!

Review of Make Me Scream by P.J. Mellor

Make Me Scream by P.J. Mellor

mms.jpgHot Sun
In the sultry Texas sun, passions run high, bikinis run low, and the sex always sizzles…

Hot Desire
On the run from her crazy ex-boyfriend, Jamie Cartwright needs a cheap place to hide, and the apartment complex right on the beach looks perfect. When Jamie lays eyes on sexy apartment manager Devon McCloud she knows exactly what she wants—serious mind-blowing sex…

Hot Sex
Now Jamie can’t wait to get it on. She’s ready to strip down and let Devon tease and touch, lick and suck every inch of her body. And when she can’t take it anymore, she’ll climb on top of Devon and ride him hard, begging him to take her beyond the limits of pleasure…

WARNING!
This is a REALLY HOT book.  (Sexually explicit)

**********

With Make Me Scream, P.J. Mellor has written a fabulous erotic romantic comedy that will have readers laughing out loud and leave them wanting more.

On the run from her ex-boyfriend, Jamie Cartwright is definitely not looking for another relationship when she rents an apartment from Devon McCloud.  Frustrated with his current work-in-progress, aspiring writer Devon is instantly attracted to…and inspired by…his new resident.  And while Jamie shares his attraction, she is still not sure she can trust him…or any man.

Devon isn’t the only resident to notice Jamie though.  The colorful Francyne hopes to play matchmaker with Jamie and Devon.  While the other residents, all male, have also noticed the appeal of the lovely Jamie, much to Devon’s dismay.

But as Devon and Jamie’s relationship starts to bloom and heat up, it appears fate has a humorous streak as there are several comical moments that will leave the reader laughing and smiling.

Make Me Scream is a hot and wonderful story with a nice blend of humor and sensuality.  Ms. Mellor has created wonderful characters in Jamie and Devon as well as in the colorful secondary characters who “scream” (sorry, bad pun) for stories of their own.  Devon is a loveable and fun hero whose slightly goofy nature holds a lot of appeal, while Jamie is the type of heroine you root for and wish to see happy.  From the moment the two meet, the reader can sense their chemistry.  The book seems to have it all…humor, suspense, romance, sensuality, etc.

My only issue with the book has to do with a secondary storyline involving some of the secondary characters.  I don’t wish to spoil anything for those who haven’t read it, but I will say that I wish the secondary storyline had been a bit more developed.  Perhaps in a future book, we will seem more of these characters and learn more (*hint hint* Ms. Mellor… ;) ).

All-in-all, Make Me Scream was a great book that I would definitely recommend.  It is an entertaining erotic romance that will make you laugh and leave you breathless with its heat.

I have already gathered my other P.J. Mellor books and hope to read more soon!  So look for more reviews in the future!
