Introducing…

Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 1:00 am (Contest, Introducing...)

Arianna Hart

I recently read Stranded by Arianna Hart and wrote to let her know how much I enjoyed it.  I also invited her to be a guest here on my blog and she agreed to do an interview…

What is your favorite part of being a writer?  Least favorite?
My favorite part of being a writer is seeing my thoughts, feelings, and invisible friends between the covers of a book. I’m a HUGE reader and when something that’s been in my head makes it onto a book shelf, it’s just such a rush. I love making up stories and exploring new worlds while still in my jammies.

My least favorite part of writing is the business part. I’m TERRIBLE at promoting myself. I hate it, I always feel like I’m bragging or something. Ugh!

How long have you been a writer?
I’ve been published since October 2003, but I’ve been writing or dreaming up stories my whole life. I just found a notebook at my mother’s house that had a half written story in it that I’d started at age 14. It was terrible!

Is there anything you would like to write, but haven’t? For example, any other genre you’d like to try?
I’d really like to write a young adult novel, but I can never seem to get past the third chapter. You’d think since I teach teens I’d be all over writing for that audience, but I just haven’t quite nailed it yet.

Who has inspired you as a writer?
So many people! Nora Roberts, because she’s my favorite writer, my family because they’ve had so many different struggles and have come through them, and Meg Cabbot because she didn’t let rejection deter her. I have so many more but I don’t want to bore you.

If one of your books were made into a movie, what book would you choose and who would you cast as the leads?
Hmmmm, so many!! I think the only character I’ve ever based on a real person is Reza from SABLE FLAME. While I wrote him, all I could think of was Johnny Rzeznik (lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls). The heroine, Sh’rell reminds me of Angelina Jolie I think, dark hair and pouty lips and unafraid to be female.

Describe yourself in 3 wordsah-devils-playground.jpg
EEEKKK! Only 3? Okay. . .
Stubborn
Friendly
Goofy

What do you like to read?
I love to read so many things! I’m a huge fan of romantic suspense. I love historicals, contemporary romance, military romance, mysteries, erotic romance, science fiction/fantasy/paranormal romance, and romantic comedy to name a few.

Where can readers find you online?
My website is www.ariannahart.com and my blog is on there, but I admit I’m not wonderful about keeping up with either the blog or the website. (remember the promo thing?)
I’m better about keeping up on my Myspace page www.myspace.com/ariannahart and blog there somewhat more regularly.

What is next for you?
I have so much going on right now, it’s crazy and fun and scary all at the same time! I have two books coming out in print from Ellora’s Cave and one from Samhain Publishing. I have a new romantic suspense, LEAP OF FAITH, coming out from Samhain in either the spring of summer, and I’m working on a futuristic for Samhain as well. I have a few other projects on various editors’ desks and I’m crossing my fingers about those. Oh, and then there’s the whole family, holiday, work thing too. The fun never ends!

Is there anything you’d like to ask readers?
I’ve always wondered if anyone cared about reading an author’s blog if all she does is talk about her life in general? I mean, I don’t have very controversial topics on my blog, but besides that, what do readers want to read about on the blogosphere? Do you just want to know when a new release is coming out? Or do you want to hear about how my daughter has chicken pox? What do you want to know?

Thank you, Ari for that great interview!

Readers, how about answering Ari’s questions above…as a little incentive, everyone who comments will be entered to win a free e-book, reader’s choice, from Arianna Hart.

Cara reveals all…okay, not really

Monday, November 26, 2007 at 1:08 am (Contest, Special Event)

Author Cara Carnes is still my guest and today I thought I’d try something a bit different…

This is a new type of interview that I decided to do with guests.  I provide the guests with sentences to complete any way they want to.  They are free to respond any way they wish…serious, fun, etc.  It is kind of interesting to see how different people interpret the words and respond.

I really enjoyed reading Cara’s responses and hope you do too!

I am:  shy.  Okay, I’ll pause for laughter now.  I am shy when I first meet someone, but then warm up quickly after that.

I like: rainy days.  They are so calming, and the perfect napping weather.

I love: the Holidays.  One day we WILL have snow in Texas on Christmas Day.  I know we will…lol.

I dream: my books and my characters.  By the time I sit down to write it, most of it is already in my head.

I wish: I was an Oscar Meyer weiner.  Oh come on.  That beginning was begging for that response; I could hear it. I wish everyone could develop and an appreciation for and a love of the written word.

I pretend: I used to pretend I was a princess when I was a little girl, and then spend the rest of the day coming up with creative ways for my prince to capture my heart.

I know: way too many useless facts.  I am like a walking sponge dripping senseless information no one should have…lol.

I fear: any kind of bug.  Have you seen how freaky looking some of them are?  Yuck!  No thank you!

I appreciate:  everyone who loves the written word, in whatever form it may be in, as much as I do.

I hope: everyone enjoys the worlds I have created, and is as entertained reading about them as I was writing them.

I look: for the joy and happiness in the small things I see in day-to-day life.  I’ve learned never to take anything or anyone for granted.

I read: anything I can get my hands on.

I want: to be on a bestseller’s list one day.  I know, it’s a long-shot, but a girl has to dream :)

I cannot live without: caffeine.  No wait, those around me couldn’t live without me having me cup of coffee in the morning.

I am happy when: I am writing or creating.

I would like to meet: everyone I chat with in chats and on discussion boards at least once.  I want to be able to put a name with the face, and give them all a big hug.

I am annoyed by: bad drivers.  You know whom you are, so stay away from me with your bad driving mojo.

Thanks Cara for sharing!!!

You know, I probably would have answered many of them the same way…especially the first one.

I love her answer about what she cannot live without…what is something you cannot live without?

Remember to leave a comment to be entered to win a download of Cara’s book, Warrior’s Paradise…details in yesterday’s post.  Every comment you leave is an entry so the more times you comment, the more entries you have!

P.S.  Cara has a new Yahoo group and would love new members…so spread the word:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caracarnes/

Introducing…

Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 1:00 am (Contest, Introducing..., Special Event)

Cara Carnes

Cara Carnes first book, Warrior’s Paradise, releases this week and I am delighted to have her as a guest here.  I first met Cara during an online chat and I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much.  Since that first chat about a month ago I don’t think a week has gone by that we haven’t “talked to” each other in a chat at least once.

When I discovered that Cara’s debut erotic romance, Warrior’s Paradise, was releasing this week, I invited her to be a guest here.  So for the next few days, I am happy to have Cara as my guest.

For today, Cara kindly agreed to answer some questions for readers to help introduce herself and her work.

Cara also generously donated an e-book copy of her debut erotic romance to one lucky winner so keep reading to find out how you can enter for your chance to win.

carawarriorsparadise.jpgPlease tell us about your book.
Warrior’s Paradise is the story of Shana and Lucian.  Shana grew up being told about a world that her adopted sister was from.  She never believed any of the stories, but found the tale about Paradise to be interesting.  It was a place where your wildest fantasies could come true.  Shana decides to test Paradise and see if it was real.

She soon finds herself in a precarious position: being asked how she came to know of Paradise and at the mercy of a gorgeous warrior named Lucian.  Determined to protect her sister, she soon discovers the true meaning of Paradise and learns about the world she never believed existed.

What inspired the story?
The idea initially presented itself to me quite a while ago.  But, the hectic pace of my everyday life prevented me from beginning to pursue my passion of writing.  When I decided to take the plunge and begin, it was the first thing I wrote.

How does it feel to be a published author?
Wonderful.  It is a lot of hard work, and I really wish everyone could see the full picture of it all.  But I have loved every second of it, and look forward to many more years of it.

If the book were made into a movie, who would you cast as the leads?
Oh my.  I have no idea.  That is a really good question.  I am horrible with the names of actors and actresses…lol.  I would say Angelina Jolie for Shana…but she’d have to adjust her hair color a smidge.  Or Jessica Alba.

For the hero, I’d have to say someone like Vin Diesel or The Rock.  They’d have to grow a bit of hair though :)

What is your favorite part of being a writer?  Least favorite?
My favorite part is being able to share my passion of writing with not only my fellow authors, but the wonderful readers as well.

My least favorite?  This is going to sound like a total copout, but it is so true.  I haven’t really found a part I don’t like yet because I am so new.  Everything is fun, because it is an adventure for me, something to experience for the very first time.

What do you hope readers get out of your books?
Pleasure.  An escape.  I always love reading because I can forget about the stresses going on in my life.  If I can give that to someone else and leave a smile on their face or touch their heart in some way, I am happy.

How long have you been a writer?  Have you always wanted to be a writer?
I have wanted to write from a very early age.  I didn’t actually start pursuing it and actively writing until this Spring.

Who are some of your writing influences?
There are way too many to name.  I would do everyone a disservice if I attempted to.  I grew up reading everything from Harlequin to historical, and loved everything that I read.  I developed an appreciation for all the genres, and I believe that will help me in my writing.

What would you like to tell aspiring writers?
Persistence pays off.  Never stop believing in yourself or pursuing your dreams.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Wow, that is hard.  I guess I would say determined, friendly and passionate.

If you had a time capsule to be opened 50 years in the future, what would you put in it?
Oh this is a fun question.  There are so many options.  I would probably put a computer, a VHS tape, a vinyl album, and a cassette tape in there.  That would be because there is no way anyone would believe they really existed and were that archaic…lol.  I’m sure we will be so technologically advanced 50 years from now.  Lastly, I would definitely put a bunch of romance books in there, just to make sure that love continues on in the future :)

What is next for you?
I have quite a few works in process right now.  I am hoping to get Warrior’s Fire, the next book in the series, out to everyone soon.

I have also been working on a couple of other series, both of which are futuristic science fiction erotic romances.  I love them so much, and I am very excited about getting them to readers to enjoy as well.

Where can readers find you online?
My website is http://www.caracarnes.com/.  My blog is at caracarnes.blogspot.com.  And I just started up a yahoo group. It is at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caracarnes

Any questions for readers?
What are you looking to read?  I am always interested in hearing what readers have to say about what should be out there…lol.

Most importantly, thank you to wonderful readers, such as Jennifer.  Without you, there would be no romance industry.  You are the breath, love and passion that keep it going.

Thank you, Cara for that wonderful interview.  Your upcoming release sounds intriguing!

As I mentioned above Cara kindly donated an e-book copy of Warrior’s Paradise for one lucky winner.
To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment on any of the Cara Carnes posts over the next few days.   And unlike past contests where it is one entry household/person, I decided to do things differently and this time every comment you leave on one of the Cara Carnes posts counts as an entry.  So the more times you comment, the more entries you have.  However, you MUST BE at least 18 years of age!  By leaving a comment and entering you are stating that you are at least 18.  Warning: Book contains hot and explicit sex scenes!
ONE winner will be chosen randomly and announced on Wednesday so please check back then to see if you won!

So, how about answering Cara’s question for readers she mentioned above: “What are you looking to read?”  What kind of books do you think should be out there/published?
